You’ve probably heard that candy is bad for your teeth. Well, that’s almost entirely true, with an exception. In today’s blog post we’ll talk about why chewing gum can actually be good for your teeth!

Is Chewing Gum Good for Your Mouth?

Yes! Chewing gum is good for your mouth since it helps to clean your teeth when you chew it. However, there is one very important caveat. The gum needs to be sugar-free.

How Sugar-Free Chewing Gum Cleans Your Mouth

Sugarless chewing gum does a number of great things to benefit your oral health, and all you have to do is chew! When you chew it, you’re encouraging saliva production. Saliva helps to clear away food, eradicate bad bacteria, and remove acids that would otherwise target your precious tooth enamel. All things considered, gum can help you remineralize your teeth and avoid issues like cavities and tooth loss.

When Should You Chew Sugar Free Gum?

You can chew gum after you eat when you can’t get to the sink to brush your teeth just yet. Chewing gum can do the trick to hold you over until you have the chance to give your teeth that deep clean that you need. However, it’s important to note that while chewing sugar-free gum has benefits, especially when it’s almost like “candy,” it’s not a replacement for brushing and flossing your teeth.
